How to use Benjamin Moore's Colour of the Year, Cinnamon Slate in your home
I'm always very dubious about the Colour of the Year announcements, but I have to say Cinnamon Slate is right up my street.
Last month, Dulux announced their Colour of the Year, True Joy. Last week, Benjamin Moore showcased their selection with the reveal of Cinnamon Slate, and then Pantone will be sharing their choice before the end of the year.
Described as a delicate mix of heathered plum and velvety brown, Cinnamon Slate offers an enduring yet modern appeal.
Enduring Style Meets Modern Sensibility
As I mentioned in my Dulux Colour of the Year post last month, I’m always unsure about the choices these leading colour experts select. However, Benjamin Moore’s Cinnamon Slate is ticking all the boxes for me.
Being a self-confessed lover of all things earthy tones, this intriguing, rich, velvety near-brown with muted-plum undertones adds an element of warmth and richness to a room. It works particularly well alongside the simplicity of neutral Glacier White.
While Dulux recommends a selection of colour stories that work with their Colour of the Year, True Joy, Benjamin Moore has curated a complete colour palette for you to choose from, allowing you to mix and match as you desire.
I love every single one of these ten hues that Benjamin Moore has selected to complement Cinnamon Slate. I really think Benjamin Moore has got it right with their 2025 Colour Trend Palette.
My personal ethos, which I share with my clients, is not to chase trends. Consider thoughtful interior design choices which are timeless and suit your home, lifestyle and personality. I always recommend investing in really good quality that will last.
With this selection of tones to choose from, they are all quite understated and far more calming than previous Colour of the Year selections. There seems to be more focus on timeless colour tones for this year, offering the perfect blend of “comfort and creativity”.
Gone are the days of the Instagram mentality, where you feel the need to redecorate your home every year to capture the trend of the moment. While this may draw a swarm of likes and attention from your followers, you might often find yourself often regretting those design choices. What looks fabulous in a social media post doesn’t always translate into something you want to live with day in and day out.
It’s all about finding that happy medium between trend and timeless.

Combine with neutral tones
Earthy tones combined with neutrals is the perfect combination, (in my opinion).
Bauwerk Colour showcases this perfectly with Tobacco, described as the perfect warm brown. With fewer plum undertones compared to Cinnamon Slate, the richness of these almost chocolatey tones works so effectively with the lighter wooden tones of the table and chairs.
Although a far lighter tone and quite different from Cinnamon Slate, these images show how a lighter tone can complement the richness of the plum undertones depicted in Cinnamon Slate. Linked closely with Tissue Pink (part of the 2025 colour trend palette).
Classic combination
A slightly paler tone compared to Benjamin Moore’s Cinnamon Slate, Niki Brantmark from @myscandinavianhome uses Blushing Peach from the Jotun paint collection.
Combined with muted, earthy tones inspired by nature, it shows just how well these colours work together.
Go bold or go home!
