Up until the middle of last year I shared regular content on Instagram. As my love for the platform slowly started to dwindle due to the many rules on what you should (and shouldn’t) be doing to please the algorithm, I made the decision to take back control and make some changes. I’m Sonya, the Home Stylist, and I live in the beautiful county of Suffolk, England with my partner Darren, and our two Beagles; Dizzee and Rascal.
Career Background
Having studied Textiles at Bolton Institute, I’ve always had a passion for interiors and art. After graduating from college, I was fortunate to find myself working for one of the leading sports brands of that time, and my career has followed working predominantly in the sports industry with brands such as Reebok, New Balance, ASICS and more recently SAMURAI.
Redundancy and New Ventures
In the summer of 2022, after eleven years, I was made redundant. This news came as a complete surprise, although I used the opportunity to fulfil my dream of becoming self-employed, launching not one, but two businesses!
I now spend my time juggling between my Home Styling business Sonya the Home Stylist, alongside working as a Product Consultant supporting (sports) brands in creating compelling product collections.

In 2023, I began writing a dedicated blog about my passion for interior styling and inspiration.
Despite my best efforts, reaching an audience proved challenging, with minimal engagement from social media shares on Instagram and Facebook.
That’s when I discovered Substack; a platform that is free of algorithms, has a sense of community allowing readers to engage with the content I share.
