Introducing new neutrals and the calming effects of green in our homes
A monthly colour montage to inspire your home
When I used to post on Instagram, I would share a monthly colour montage.
I haven’t shared a colour montage here on Substack, so thought I’d give this a try and see what you think.
Where beige would often be the go-to colour if you we’re looking for a neutral tone for your home, there are a selection of far more interesting colours considered neutrals, including sage greens, blush pinks, natural stone tones and even soft blues.
For my first monthly montage, I’ve chosen Sage Green to share with you.
Colour can have a profound impact on our emotions, Green, the colour of nature and life, has the ability to soothe, heal, and rejuvenate our mental and emotional wellbeing.
The colour green is abundant in nature, and its therapeutic effects should not be underestimated.
Research has shown that exposure to the colour green can reduce stress, improve mood, increase creativity, and enhance cognitive functioning.
Whether it's taking a walk in a park, tending to a garden, or simply gazing at a scenic view, green can be incredibly beneficial.
Incorporating more ‘green’ into our daily lives can have a transformative impact on our mental health.

Green is also an incredibly adaptable colour and looks stunning when combined with other neutral tones such as blush pink and natural stone. With the additional uplifting effects it can have on our general mood, it’s the perfect colour choice for your home.
This weeks digital magazine is more visual, sharing a selection of beautiful inspirational images, which I hope you’ll love too.

I love the work of Florian Gadsby, a ceramicist based in North London.
The tones which Florian is able to achieve through his glazes are just beautiful, and this image of his famous mugs assembled in rows perfectly displays stunning tones of sage green.

Tiles are a fabulous source for colour inspiration, and these “kit-kat” mosaic tiles are a gorgeous tone of olive green, complementing the chalk white grout, and alongside the dusky pink cloth that’s hanging up, demonstrates how well green and pink can work together.

These drapes, also from Couleur Chanvre, are truly exquisite. If you’re not familiar with this brand, do take a look at their range of fabrics.
The reason for sharing this image is to show how stunning the new neutral colour palette works together; from taupe tones to dusky pink through to greyish-green.

I take inspiration from so many different sources, when creating my own colour palettes. This fabulous home located in Aix-en-Provence, (photo by Caroline Port), is the most tranquil collection of neutral tones that complement each other so well.

A calming, delicate tone of green from the Graham and Brown paint collection.
Coastal Retreat evokes memories of a fresh, relaxing shoreline vacation. Warm, mid green hues combined with aqua tones create a beautiful shade that is classic and elegant.

This image by Bree Leech is the another great example on how the combination of new neutrals can work so well together.
The accent of the dusky pink cushion against the soft tone of green on the armchair, really lifts this space.

For my last image, I wanted to share this image from Crowne Paints, demonstrating the beauty of combining green alongside the natural tones of wood. I also love the finishing touch of the rattan effect light pendant.
I do hope you’ve enjoyed this new monthly addition of sharing a colour montage. I’d love to hear your thoughts, and please do let me know if there is a particular colour you’d like me to focus on for future months.
We have our final bank holiday next weekend here in the UK (at least until Christmas), so I’m thinking I may share some of my tablescape tips with you if you’re planning on entertaining over the long weekend.
Until then, have a wonderful week …

Oh wow! Those greens truly are calming.
I rent now, in the south. The walls are that 90's yellowish beige. I can't wait to buy to paint the walls. I was thinking grey before seeing your piece. Now I'll think of the calming, warm effect of sage green.
My earlier comment wouldn’t send Sonya, so hope you get this, & maybe the other!! 😂 Just to say it’s great to see your colour montages back 🙌 they have been missed! Love green & your chosen images, a super selection to showcase how these neutrals can work together. Lovely, thank you 👍🏻💚
