15 dog friendly holiday properties where you don't need to compromise on style
Sit, stay and relax with your four-legged friend in tow
As a proud dog mum to two beagles: Dizzee and Rascal; I know just how tricky it can be to find a holiday let that suits all of us. Stylish, dog-friendly places are few and far between, and I often find myself frustrated by the lack of attractive options when travelling with our two in tow.
Don’t get me wrong; there are plenty of dog-friendly properties out there. But if you’re looking for somewhere with a hint of luxury, something that feels on par with (or dare I say, better than) your own home; the choices suddenly dwindle to a small handful.
Can anyone else relate?
Why do so many holiday lets assume dog owners are happy to rough it in tired decor, worn-out sofas and soulless spaces? Or worse; that we can’t be trusted to take care of someone else’s home. And don’t even get me started on the eye-watering "pet cleaning fees” that some places include as standard.
Over the years, we’ve discovered some brilliant dog-friendly places; both across the UK and in Europe; where style and comfort haven’t been compromised. And with the summer holidays fast approaching, I thought I’d share a few of my favourite UK properties where dogs are welcome and design-led comfort is still a priority.
Whether you're after a countryside retreat, a coastal escape, or a quirky converted space with a log-burning hot tub, these properties prove you don’t have to compromise on style to bring your dog along for the ride.
Dizzee and Rascal have given all of these properties their official seal of approval; and I hope your four-legged companions will enjoy them too!
1: The Wee Beehive: Sweet Donside Cabins, Scotland

Nestled in the rural heart of Scotland, Sweet Donside Cabins, is a collection of five magical wooden retreats, each lovingly styled with thoughtful rustic-luxe touches.

The Wee Beehive is a particular favourite of mine; not least because it includes a wood-burning hot tub tucked away around the back of the cabin for total privacy.
It's the perfect spot to unwind after a day exploring the Cairngorms National Park, with your four-legged friends happily snoozing nearby.
2: Jimmy’s Shed: Manor Farm Stays, Norfolk
More quirky than luxurious, Jimmy’s Shed is a converted stable that once housed Jimmy the stallion, now transformed into a cosy holiday let full of character, nestled in the heart of the peaceful Norfolk countryside.
The shed features a fully secure garden with fabulous views and a private hot tub; perfect for unwinding under the stars with a glass of something chilled.
Inside, the space is full of charm, with clever use of reclaimed materials; from a school chemistry lab worktop to salvaged doors and beautifully weathered windows.

And if a converted boat is more your thing, you might want to check out The Woodland Boat, another dog-friendly gem from Manor Farm Stays.
3: The Deer Leap Woodland Cabin, Worcestershire
Tucked within the grounds of a working farm in the picturesque village of Inkberrow, The Deer Leap is a beautiful timber cabin overlooking one of three tranquil lakes.
It’s furnished with rustic charm, including wood-burner and cosy corners; making it an ideal retreat for curling up with the dogs and a good book.
The real wow factor is the incredible outdoor space; a tranquil lakeside garden, that’s so peaceful, listening to the rustle of leaves and the gentle singing of birds.
Plus, the garden is fully secure, so there’s no risk of the dogs trying to make an escape!

4: Woodcock Farm, Peak District
Located right on the famous Snakes Pass, at the gateway to the Peak District National Park, Woodcock Farm is a beautifully converted barn with the most fabulous views over Glossop Golf Club and the surrounding hills.
Not only are the views from Woodcock Farm absolutely breathtaking, the interior is just as impressive, with a clean, modern styling with carefully considered touches.

One of my favourite features is the mezzanine bedroom, complete with a stunning statement light pendant; and as a lover of all things lighting, this was the perfect finishing touch.
5: Badgers Rest, East Sussex
We do love a timber cabin, and Badgers Rest is no exception.
Tucked away in woodland within the South Downs National Park, this charming hideaway is just a stone’s throw from the historic village of Alfriston.
With beautiful walks quite literally on your doorstep, it’s an ideal base for a peaceful escape.

Though compact, the cabin is cleverly designed, with every inch thoughtfully considered to ensure you have everything you need for a cosy short break.
The pièce de résistance; the mezzanine bedroom tucked into the eaves; a magical space that makes you feel like you’re sleeping amongst the trees.
6: Glenwhan Gardens, Dumfries & Galloway
We’ve stayed in a few shepherds huts over the years, and while space can be a squeeze with two adults and two beagles, I absolutely love them; especially for a couple of nights.
This particular hut, nestled within the grounds of Glenwhan Gardens, really stood out.
While Glenwhan Gardens is open to the public during the day, staying in the shepherd’s hut gives you the rare treat of having the gardens to yourself once the gates close.
We were lucky with the weather during our stay; the sun was shining, and it felt like we had our own private paradise.
The hut’s interior has been cleverly designed to maximise space, with thoughtful details like a fold-out table and chairs, smart storage under the bed, and everything you need for a comfortable, peaceful break.

7: Buzzard: Nether Glenny Farm, Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park
For breathtaking views, it doesn’t get much better than Buzzard at Nether Glenny Farm, set within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
This former byre (a traditional cattle shed) has been lovingly converted into a stylish, dog-friendly cottage that perfectly balances rustic charm with luxury comfort.
Although the real showstopper is the private wood-burning hot tub, with panoramic views of the surrounding hills; a fabulous spot to unwind after a day of exploring.
The dogs were more than happy, too, snoozing contentedly after their outdoor adventures.
I definitely plan to return, as next time I’d love to stay at The Bothy; a remote hillside hideaway, completely secluded, apart from the occasional visit from the Highland cows that are based at Nether Glenny Farm.

8: Coopers Cottage, Norfolk
Tucked away in a peaceful courtyard in the picturesque village of Burnham Market, Coopers Cottage is a charming cottage on the North Norfolk coast.
Beautifully furnished with soft, cottage-core touches, felt like true home-from-home; cosy, welcoming, and wonderfully relaxing.
The perfect base for exploring this beautiful part of the world, with plenty of dog-friendly beaches and walking routes just a short drive away.

9: Fen Slodger Barn: Taumberland Barns, Lincolnshire
Part of the beautifully converted Taumberland Barns, Fen Slodger Barn is the ideal spot for a peaceful countryside escape and was absolutely idyllic for our Christmas break.
Set just outside the village of Wigtoft and surrounded by green pastures and open skies, the barn felt incredibly spacious from the moment we walked in. The photos online didn’t do it justice; it was even better in real life.
Every little detail has been thoughtfully considered, from the gorgeous festive decorations (complete with a real Christmas tree!) to the generous welcome treats, including a doggy hamper and presents for Dizzee and Rascal.

Inside, the décor is a stylish blend of modern and traditional features, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. And as with many of my favourites, there’s a log-burning hot tub outside; perfect for soaking in the tranquillity, whether it’s mid-afternoon or under the stars.

It’s safe to say it got the full seal of approval from our two!
10: Gunton Arms, Norfolk
We’ve just returned from celebrating our 15-year anniversary at Gunton Arms; and it did not disappoint!
Owned by British art dealer Ivor Braka, this country house hotel has been transformed into a traditional pub with rooms, set within the extensive parkland of a historic estate near Cromer. Herds of deer roam freely across the grounds, creating a truly magical backdrop.
The interiors, designed by the late Robert Kime, are rich in character, and the entire property is brimming with incredible artwork. As a guest, you’re free to explore the house as if visiting a private gallery.

And yes; dogs are welcome throughout, including the pub and restaurant. It made for the perfect anniversary getaway without leaving our two behind.

11: Beck Hall, Yorkshire Dales
We’ve stayed at Beck Hall in Malham twice now; its the perfect halfway point when heading further north on a road trip before looping back home.
We first discovered it thanks to Four in a Bed, and I loved the idea of a hotel dedicated to dogs. Naturally, we had to visit.

Just a stone’s throw from Malham Cove, it’s ideally placed for exploring the local area.
If you’re up for a longer hike, there are plenty of options to properly tire out your four-legged friends. Just be mindful that some of the fields en-route may have livestock; we’ve had a couple of surprise encounters with cows (but that’s a story for another day!).

Beck Hall has since become the UK’s first fully plant-based hotel; while still remaining entirely dog-friendly. Which only gives me more reason to book another visit in the not so distant future.
12: Pheasants Roost, Yorkshire
Set in a quiet paddock with views over open farmland, Pheasants Roost is a charming shepherd’s hut located in the village of Thorpe Bassett.

Beautifully decorated with a fresh, summery colour palette, it felt bright and up-lifting. We stayed here as a pit-stop before heading further north, and it was the perfect place to recharge; with everything we needed for a short break with our boys.
13: The Cowshed, Suffolk
A charming rural retreat in the heart of the Suffolk countryside.
While we haven’t stayed at The Cowshed yet, it’s on the bucket list; especially with its fully fenced garden and paddock, ideal for your four-legged friends to roam freely. Add in a welcoming dog hamper on arrival and, really, what’s not to love?

I’m familiar with this part of the world, having grown up in Suffolk; and just a 10 minutes down the beautiful village of Lavenham, one of the best-preserved medieval villages in England. With over 300 listed buildings, it’s the perfect spot to explore and soak up some local history.
14: The Lodge, Essex
Who wouldn’t want to wake up to this view?
Located near the Essex coastline, the Prithvi Hut (Earth) is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Thoughtfully designed, it’s a standout among shepherd’s huts; with deep under-bed drawers for storage, a compact-yet-functional kitchen and bathroom, and clever use of space throughout.

The real highlight; a secluded outdoor area with your own private wood-burning bath; perfect for a peaceful soak under the stars.
Since our stay, owners Ffi and Ollie have added a second hut, the Jala Hut (Water); a beautifully hand-built, bespoke lakeside hideaway nestled among oak trees.
We haven’t stayed there yet… but it’s another property high on the bucket list.
15: Twee Gebroeders, Suffolk
Mixing things up with my final entry, Twee Gebroeders is a beautifully restored Dutch barge moored on the River Deben, in Woodbridge, with views across to the historic Tide Mill.
Compact yet perfectly formed, the barge had everything you need for a relaxing short break; and there’s something undeniably special about watching the water drift by from your own private deck.

We spent long, lazy afternoons and evenings here, glass of Prosecco (or Sauvignon Blanc) in hand, soaking in the scenery.

Even the dogs loved it, watching the world go by.

And that concludes my selection of dog friendly holiday properties where you don't need to compromise on style.
